Abstract:

Several developmental issues confront Nigeria as a nation. These issues include rising insecurity and declining standard of living. Related to this, politicians claim they have been battling with security challenges and rapid economic decline. The mass media as a watchdog is capable of blowing the whistle to call attention to serious national issues. This implies a clear recognition of the fact that the media plays an important role on issues of security and economic transformation. The digital age is period driven sophistication in technology. The spread of fake news that are capable of worsening the security problems of Nigeria is rampant. Hence, this paper argue that the mass media as an agent of change can foster security and economic transformation in the digital age in Nigeria when it is allowed to play its roles without intimidation. The power of the media to decide what the people should read, see or hear has never been in doubt is vital in achieving security and economic transformation in Nigeria. It was on this premise that this paper examines the role of the mass media in achieving security and socio economic transformation in the digital age in Nigeria.
