Abstract:

The objective of this paper is to show that academic libraries can greatly contribute effectively through the provision of relevant information resources, to the achievement of national development goals in Nigeria. The major highlights of the paper include: academic libraries, the role of academic libraries, types of information resources relevant to the achievement of the set goals, provision of these resources for the enchantment of national development and their hindrances. The paper is of the opinion that academic libraries cannot achieve national development goals in Nigeria if not properly funded and repositioned as the cradle of the citadel of learning because learning is knowledge, knowledge is information, information is power and power is development- great nation
