Paper Title:
REPOSITIONING ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION & SKILL ACQUISITION FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Publised in OKO JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SCIENCE    (VOLUME 3 NUMBER 2 JANUARY 2021)
Abstract:

There is no gainsaying that for any meaningful national development to take place, the urgent attention and necessary support must be given to entrepreneurship education and skills acquisition. Entrepreneurship education is a pathway to job creation, poverty reduction and national development as well as economic development. Entrepreneurship education is learning directed towards developing in young people those skills, competencies, understanding and attributes which equip them to be innovative and training them to identify, create, initiate and successfully manage personal and community business as well as working for themselves. A developed nation can only be so classified if certain core parameters are identifiable. Entrepreneurship through its developmental impact on individuals plays a fundamental role in the development of nations and their economics. There is an urgent need for a proactive employment drive in the country through entrepreneurship education. The inability of the graduates of the educational system to contribute meaningfully to the economic development of the nation by being self-employed was what informed the introduction of Entrepreneurship education in schools. This opinion position paper looked at the historical development of Entrepreneurship Education, the concept of entrepreneurship Education, the concept of National Development, Benefits/roles, vision and mission, challenges/problems, solutions of entrepreneurship education in Nigeria, as well as make recommendations after drawing the conclusions.
