Abstract:

The study intends to find the extent of promoting health in the workplace using ICT in teaching and learning of Physical and health education in Kuje Area Council, FCT-Abuja. The main objectives is to determine the extent to which ICT based materials is promoting health in the workplace and its availability for use in schools. It also attempts to identify the constraints against the use of ICT based materials for teaching and learning in physical and health education in junior secondary schools. The study employed a descriptive survey in which a simple random sampling technique was used in determining the population of the study, which comprises of 50 respondents from the sample area. It was revealed that the majority of the respondents were male, represented by 70% of the total population. Also, 40% of the respondents average between the ages of 30-34 as reveal by the study. A mean statistics method was used in analyzing the data collected from the field, and it shows that computer and internet facilities such as E-book, E-journal are not available for teaching and learning of physical and health education. It was also revealed that physical and health education teachers mostly ignore the use of ICT based materials in teaching. In view of this, it was recommended that physical and health education teachers should endeavour to use ICT for effective teaching of PHE in secondary schools, it was also recommended that government should ensure the adequate employment of dedicated and qualified teachers to teach the subject in all secondary schools which not only promote the health of the students but all the staff in their workplaces.
