Abstract:

The sudden outbreak of Covid-19 virus as a global pandemic has impacted the economies of nations and redefined the modus operandi of businesses, tours and travels, economic activities, tourism, sports and all facets of human endeavours. The effect of the pandemic on academic activities are equally telling. For almost five months now, schools have remained closed while students idle away. Advanced countries which are less affected by dearth of e-learning opportunities are leveraging on e-learning infrastructures in the organizing online learning for students, but the less developed nations, including Nigeria are grappling with the attendant inhibitions. Because education is one of the desiderata for national development, we seek to explore, in this opinion paper, the e-learning platforms utilized in Nigeria during this pandemic as well as the challenges attendant to their application and use in a country imperilled by abject dearth of social amenities, such as erratic power supply, poor GSM network and endemic poverty.
